A wet system passing over today, with a proper ripple driven from the SSW and pressure sitting still. On Lac Madelon, work bays that hold the day's warmth first. Set the alarm around the morning. Let the water tell you when to move. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Madelon sits in Mauricie, out in Quebec. It lies 480 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 17 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 2.7 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Nearest town is Saint-Michel-des-Saints, 58 km off. Trois-Rivières is the closest city, 102 km away. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. The near bank of Lac Madelon is often the one people ignore.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -16°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. The season on Lac Madelon rarely departs from it.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac Pinotte, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac Madelon, the notice at the access point is the final word.
