Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with the surface near flat and pressure sitting still. Lac MacMallan should fish best around windblown banks where food collects today. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac MacMallan is a Laurentides water, in Quebec. The ground around here is rolling bush. It runs to roughly 20 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The bank runs about 2.8 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Supplies mean a trip to Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel, 25 km off. Orléans sits 68 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. This one is safely inside the county line.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. At Lac MacMallan light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Averages move between -14°C in January and 18°C in July. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. At Lac MacMallan the season follows that pattern closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Lac de la Tortue, 0.6 km away. For Lac MacMallan in particular, ask before you travel.
