Overcast skies today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the W with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac Lortie should come off inflow corners and shaded margins. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Look for Lac Lortie in the Mauricie part of Quebec. It stands 405 metres above sea level. At some 2.19 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. Few waters listed in Mauricie are bigger. Weymontachie at 37 km is the nearest place to stop. Manawan is 53 km away, with Leblanc at 69 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Fish Lac Lortie where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. This far north the hard season runs and runs. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Lortie.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lac Day sits 3.2 km off and takes the overflow. Treat access at Lac Lortie as something to verify.
