Overcast skies today, with a persistent wind from the S and pressure sitting still. Expect most activity at Lac Long around shallow cover and weed edges. Set the alarm around the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Look for Lac Long in the Mauricie part of Quebec. The surface lies 436 metres up. At about 11 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 3.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. 65 km away sits La Tuque, the nearest town. Saguenay is the closest city, 105 km away. Close neighbours run: Lac Julien roughly 0.7 km, Lac Henri out at 1.1 km, Lac Noir roughly 1.1 km, Lac du Rocher Fendu out at 1.2 km and Lac Louis roughly 1.6 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Fish Lac Long to its features, not to its size.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -16°C on the long-run figures. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. At Lac Long the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Julien at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Lac Long carry more weight than any list.
