Soft grey light all day today, with a whisper of wind from the S with the barometer flat. The productive water at Lac Loa will be around structure within a cast of the bank. The strongest window is the morning. Small adjustments will matter more than big moves. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Loa lies in Mauricie, Quebec. The country here is mixed forest. Surface area is around 39 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The outline measures near 5.3 km, so local knowledge counts. On our Mauricie list it sits near the top for size. Start from Saint-Michel-des-Saints, 49 km down the road. Then Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, 57 km, and Mandeville, 60 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At Lac Loa the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The range across the year is -15°C to 17°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Plan any trip to Lac Loa around it.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Etang Carpentier, 0.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Lac Loa.
