A grey, even sky over the water, with a soft SSW wind with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Lac Leon should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. Quiet conditions all day, with the evening marginally better. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Leon belongs to Côte-Nord, Quebec. The sea is 5.8 km distant. With some 17 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. With about 2.6 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. It is low-lying compared with other Quebec water we list. Start from Baie-Comeau, 11 km down the road. Hauterive lies 14 km off, Chute-aux-Outardes another 27 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Côte-Nord cover logperch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Lac Leon responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Averages here run 17°C at the top of summer and -15°C at the bottom of winter. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. At Lac Leon the season follows that pattern closely.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Ethier, 1.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback.
