Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a gentle ripple from the S and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at Lac Lavit along the calm side of the wind. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Look for Lac Lavit in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The setting is taiga. Small at around 4 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. The nearest town is Chibougamau, 87 km away. Normandin lies 94 km off, Albanel another 96 km. Other water within reach: Lac Bolbec 1 km away, 1.6 km out stands Lac Upie, Lac Lagrave 2.2 km away, 2.4 km out stands Lac Corlay and Lac Angely 2.7 km away. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lac Lavit the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Seasonal averages run from -19°C in January up to 16°C in July. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. The season on Lac Lavit rarely departs from it.
The access position is unclear from public sources. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Failing this one, try Lac Bolbec, 1 km away. For Lac Lavit, the notice at the access point is the final word.
