Heavy overcast holding through the day, with the water lying quiet and steady pressure. Start the search at Lac Laurier along inflow corners and shaded margins. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Laurier stands in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. It stands 405 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 10 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. A shoreline of some 1.7 km keeps the choices simple. On size it sits at the modest end of our Nord-du-Québec list. Chibougamau is the closest town at 68 km. Further out sit Chapais (81 km) and Mistissini (116 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
We hold no depth figure for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. The county list is broader than any single water. The near bank of Lac Laurier is often the one people ignore.
On the long-term average, July reads 16°C and January reads -19°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Laurier.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Lac Stylo, 0.8 km away. Check the position at Lac Laurier before loading the car.
