An even grey lid over the water, with a light chop building from the S with the barometer flat. Give windblown banks where food collects the first hour at Lac Lanoux. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

You will find Lac Lanoux in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. Around the bank it is spruce and muskeg. It measures about 12 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Shoreline comes to about 1.4 km, small enough to learn in a day. The nearest place of any size is Normandin, 30 km away. Albanel is 36 km and Saint-Félicien 45 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish among the fish reported. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Lac Lanoux to its features, not to its size.
Seasonal averages run from -18°C in January up to 17°C in July. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Lac Lanoux fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Failing this one, try Lac Venet, 1.4 km away. Signs at Lac Lanoux carry more weight than any list.
