Overcast skies today, with a faint WSW drift with the barometer flat. Fish at Lac Laird should hold close to the first drop-off and weed lines. The night carries the best of the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

You will find Lac Laird in Outaouais, Quebec. The bank is 228 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 34 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The full circuit measures close to 3.4 km on foot. It is among the larger waters listed here for Outaouais. For a base, Saint-Boniface sits 14 km out. After that come Maniwaki at 23 km and Saint-Raphaël at 35 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Across Outaouais, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. On Lac Laird the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Seasonal averages run from -15°C in January up to 18°C in July. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Lac Laird fishes to that pattern most years.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. For a change of water, Lac Blanc is 1.2 km distant. What applies at Lac Laird may have changed since it was mapped.
