A closed sky with even light today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW with a settled glass. Most of the action on Lac Laing should come off the seam between weed and open water. The numbers single out the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Laing is a Mauricie water, in Quebec. The bank is 423 metres above sea level. Small enough that any disturbance crosses the whole surface. Our Mauricie list holds plenty of bigger water. 30 km away sits Weymontachie, the nearest town. La Tuque follows at 64 km, then Manawan at 79 km. Alternatives close at hand: Lac Pine just 1.3 km, Lac Eagle roughly 1.5 km, Petit lac Sam just 1.9 km, Lac Dale roughly 2.1 km and Lac Pop just 2.2 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Across Mauricie, recorded fish include northern pike, brook trout and walleye. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. The near bank of Lac Laing is often the one people ignore.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 17°C, while January sits near -16°C. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Lac Laing runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Lac Pine is 1.3 km distant. Rules at Lac Laing are worth checking on the day.
