Flat light and a covered sky today, with a faint SSW drift and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Lac Cabot should come off windblown banks where food collects. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Quebec holds Lac Cabot, in Mauricie. The bank gives way to taiga. At 2 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Most waters listed here for Mauricie are larger. Nearest town is Weymontachie, 29 km off. Further out sit La Tuque (65 km) and Manawan (81 km). Neighbouring water: Lac Dale 0.4 km, Lac Eagle a shade over 1 km, Lac Pop 1.2 km, Lac Laing a shade over 2.4 km and Lac Gladys 2.9 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Fish Lac Cabot where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -16°C for January. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. That is the shape of the year on Lac Cabot.
We hold no note on access for this one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Dale at 0.4 km is the sensible second choice. Where Lac Cabot is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
