A grey, even sky over the water, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface with the glass holding level. On Lac Laforest, work the margins and the shelf beyond them first. The forecast is against you; the morning is the least bad option. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand.

Look for Lac Laforest in the Outaouais part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 267 metres. About 1.01 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. Bank access stretches around 4.6 km in total. On our Outaouais list it sits near the top for size. The town to know is Fort-Coulonge, 33 km out. Saint-Raphaël follows at 43 km, then Maniwaki at 53 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Outaouais, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Lac Laforest fishes better once you know its edges.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -14°C in January. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Laforest.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Lac Clair is 2.2 km off. None of that is settled for Lac Laforest in what we hold.
