Overcast skies today, with a busy SSW wind on the open water and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Lac Labbe should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. Everything points to the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

This water sits in Mauricie, Quebec. The country here is northern bush. Around 36 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. There is roughly 3.6 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. It ranks high for size among our Mauricie listings. For supplies, Leblanc is 70 km out. After that come Weymontachie at 112 km and Manawan at 116 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. The shape of Lac Labbe rewards a slow walk along one bank.
On the long-term average, July reads 16°C and January reads -17°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. At Lac Labbe the season follows that pattern closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac Esker, 1.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac Labbe before loading the car.
