An even grey lid over the water, with an easy breeze from the SW and the barometer holding steady. The water to cover at Lac la Ligne is the weed line and any gaps in it. The forecast is against you; the morning is the least bad option. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand.

The Outaouais entry here is Lac la Ligne, in Quebec. The water sits 365 metres up. It measures about 34 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Bank access stretches around 3.9 km in total. Few waters listed in Outaouais are bigger. For a base, Deep River sits 57 km out. Chalk River follows at 67 km, then Petawawa at 84 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Species logged across Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. The near bank of Lac la Ligne is often the one people ignore.
Seasonal averages run from -15°C in January up to 18°C in July. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Plan any trip to Lac la Ligne around it.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Failing this one, try Lac Du Portail, 1.3 km away. For Lac la Ligne in particular, ask before you travel.
