Overcast skies today, with an easy breeze from the SW with the glass holding level. Activity on Lac Jussieu should centre on shallow cover and weed edges. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Jussieu is one of the Outaouais waters in Quebec. The surface lies 335 metres up. This is a pocket water of some 8 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. The closest town, Deep River, is 55 km distant. For a city, Gatineau is 195 km off. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Open biodiversity records for Outaouais list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Lac Jussieu the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -15°C in January. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Lac Jussieu more years than not.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac la Ligne sits 2.6 km off and takes the overflow. Treat access at Lac Jussieu as something to verify.
