A closed sky with even light today, with almost no wind to speak of and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Lac Kiss should be near the calm side of the wind. One clear peak today: the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

The Mauricie entry here is Lac Kiss, in Quebec. It lies 508 metres above sea level. At about 24 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 3.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. Weymontachie sits 33 km from the bank. Leblanc follows at 52 km, then Manawan at 67 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout and walleye. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Fish Lac Kiss where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The range across the year is -17°C to 16°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Lac Kiss runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Laurence, 2.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Where Lac Kiss is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
