Heavy overcast holding through the day, with barely a breath of wind with a settled glass. Activity on Lac a l'Ours should centre on the margins and the shelf beyond them. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The Mauricie end of Quebec holds Lac a l'Ours. The country here is taiga. It runs to roughly 20 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The bank runs about 3.1 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. 39 km away sits Weymontachie, the nearest town. The big place round here is Trois-Rivières, 210 km distant. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. The shape of Lac a l'Ours decides where the fish sit.
Between January at about -17°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Anyone fishing Lac a l'Ours regularly works to that calendar.
Public data does not answer the access question here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Black sits 1.8 km off and takes the overflow. For Lac a l'Ours in particular, ask before you travel.
