Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a soft SW wind with the barometer flat. Give the weed line and any gaps in it the first hour at Lac Key. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Key lies in Côte-Nord, in Quebec. The shore lies 22 km out. With some 39 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 4.2 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It lies lower than most water we list in Quebec. Nearest place of any size is Maliotenam, 40 km away. Sept-Îles is 51 km and Port-Cartier 90 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. At Lac Key the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Average temperature peaks around 15°C in July and bottoms out near -16°C in January. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Plan around that when you fish Lac Key.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Claveau sits 4.8 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lac Key in what we hold.
