An even grey lid over the water, with a gentle ripple from the NNW with a settled glass. Lac Katakutawachitich should fish best around the shallows early and the drop later today. The productive run goes morning through afternoon. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. A raw day: short sessions and precise casts pay.

Look for Lac Katakutawachitich in the Côte-Nord part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 304 metres. This is sizeable water at about 4.95 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. At about 33 km of edge, most people fish a single area and learn it well. It is among the larger waters listed here for Côte-Nord. Kuujjuaq is the closest place, 183 km off. Nain is 340 km away, with Labrador City at 405 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Lac Katakutawachitich fishes better once you know its edges.
Typical July readings run about 12°C; by January the average is down near -25°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early June. Ice clears near early June and comes back about late October in a typical year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Plan around that when you fish Lac Katakutawachitich.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Failing this one, try Lac Wheeler, 10 km away. Check the current arrangement for Lac Katakutawachitich.
