No direct sun expected today, with a busy ENE wind on the open water with the glass holding level. Whatever swims in Lac Kachatach should be near the margins and the shelf beyond them. The day holds up well from night into morning. Work the productive water thoroughly. The cold will pin fish to deeper, stable water.

Lac Kachatach is listed under Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. The ground around here is spruce and muskeg. With some 75 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The outline measures near 9.6 km, so local knowledge counts. It lies lower than most water we list in Quebec. Kuujjuaq at 118 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Nain at 481 km and Labrador City at 504 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Nord-du-Québec cover Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Fish Lac Kachatach where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Typical July readings run about 12°C; by January the average is down near -25°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early June. Averages suggest open water from about early June through to roughly late October. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Lac Kachatach runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. If the gate is shut, Lac Minguarutittalik at 4 km is the nearest alternative. Rules at Lac Kachatach are worth checking on the day.
