A closed sky with even light today, with a light ESE breeze and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Lac Joyant should be near shallow cover and weed edges. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. A hard-frost feel to the day; keep expectations modest.

Lac Joyant is a Nord-du-Québec water, Quebec side. Taiga runs right down to the water. At some 3.23 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. Some 22 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. Kuujjuaq at 365 km is the nearest place to stop. Beyond it, Labrador City at 376 km and Fermont at 380 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. The shape of Lac Joyant decides where the fish sit.
Averages here run 13°C at the top of summer and -24°C at the bottom of winter. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late May. Ice usually gives way near late May, and forms again about late October. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. It holds true on Lac Joyant more years than not.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Should this one be busy, Lac Chastenet is 3.3 km off. What applies at Lac Joyant may have changed since it was mapped.
