Rain on and off through the day, with a soft S wind with the barometer flat. The productive water at Lac Joppa will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. One clear peak today: the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Look for Lac Joppa in Mauricie, Quebec. Height above sea level is 462 metres. Around 14 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Roughly 1.9 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Nearest town is Weymontachie, 35 km off. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 174 km away. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Joppa the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -17°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Plan around that when you fish Lac Joppa.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Lac Tawonna is 1 km off. None of that is settled for Lac Joppa in what we hold.
