Rain moving through today, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface with the glass holding level. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at Lac Gretchen. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Gretchen is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. The setting is northern bush on every side. Roughly 17 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The bank runs about 1.7 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Weymontachie lies 37 km from the water. Saguenay is the closest city, 173 km away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Anyone new to Lac Gretchen should walk it once before setting up.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 17°C, while January sits near -17°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Expect Lac Gretchen to follow that timing.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. The nearest alternative is Lac du Chasseur, 1.3 km out. None of that is settled for Lac Gretchen in what we hold.
