Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with the surface near flat with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Lac Joncas should be near the margins and the shelf beyond them. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue end of Quebec holds Lac Joncas. It sits at 321 metres above sea level. Roughly 4.44 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. Some 26 km of shoreline means conditions can differ from one end to the other. It ranks high for size among our Abitibi-Témiscamingue listings. Start from Val-d'Or, 107 km down the road. Beyond it, Notre-Dame-du-Lac at 114 km and Malartic at 116 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Fish Lac Joncas where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -15°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Lac Joncas runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. The nearest alternative is Lac Ciney, 1.5 km out. None of that is settled for Lac Joncas in what we hold.
