Solid cloud cover today, with next to no ripple and pressure sitting still. The water to cover at Lac Javols is bays that hold the day's warmth. Set the alarm around the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Javols stands in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. Everything around it is spruce and muskeg. Small at around 6 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Our Nord-du-Québec list holds plenty of bigger water. Nearest town is Chibougamau, 50 km off. Saguenay is the closest city, 256 km away. Within a short drive: Lac Ares out at 0.6 km, Lac Maskusi lies 1.1 km on, Lac Hauriet out at 1.8 km, Lac Loreto lies 3.6 km on and Lac Liasse out at 3.7 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Open biodiversity records for Nord-du-Québec list Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. The county list is broader than any single water. On Lac Javols the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The range across the year is -19°C to 16°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. It holds true on Lac Javols more years than not.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Should this one be busy, Lac Ares is 0.6 km off. Check the current arrangement for Lac Javols.
