Overcast skies today, with a light chop building from the SW and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Lac Janson should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue entry here is Lac Janson, in Quebec. The surface lies 344 metres up. The water covers some 13 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The edge runs 1.9 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Val-d'Or is the closest place, 70 km off. It is 263 km to Gatineau, the nearest city. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Abitibi-Témiscamingue, recorded fish include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. The county list is broader than any single water. At Lac Janson light and wind decide more than tackle does.
The seasonal spread runs -16°C to 17°C. Winter owns most of the year at this latitude. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Lac Janson fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. The nearest alternative is Lac Pece, 0.6 km out. Nothing on Lac Janson should be assumed from this page alone.
