Flat light and a covered sky today, with just enough N wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Lac Iqalulik around reed fringes and open pockets. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. A hard-frost feel to the day; keep expectations modest.

The Nord-du-Québec end of Quebec holds Lac Iqalulik. The ground around here is taiga. The water covers some 40 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The whole outline is near 3.9 km, and most of it is walkable. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. Kuujjuaq is the closest town at 250 km. The big place round here is Saguenay, 1302 km distant. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Reported across Nord-du-Québec: Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Fish Lac Iqalulik to its features, not to its size.
The year swings from about -24°C in January to roughly 11°C in July. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. After mid June the shallows warm and the fish move up. Expect the water usable from around mid June until roughly late October. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Time your trip to Lac Iqalulik by conditions rather than dates.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Ippikallait at 2.8 km is the sensible second choice. Treat Lac Iqalulik as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
