A grey, even sky over the water, with a kind SSW breeze on the water and the barometer holding steady. The water to cover at Lac Hamecon is windblown banks where food collects. The night carries the best of the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Hamecon lies in Mauricie, in Quebec. This is northern bush country. Around 14 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. There is roughly 2.9 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. Some 29 km away sits Leblanc, the nearest settlement. The big place round here is Trois-Rivières, 226 km distant. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Take Lac Hamecon a stretch at a time.
Seasonal averages run from -17°C in January up to 16°C in July. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Lac Hamecon fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. If the gate is shut, Lac Twin at 1.3 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position at Lac Hamecon before loading the car.
