An even grey lid over the water, with a light SSW breeze with the glass holding level. Lac Gus should fish best around structure within a cast of the bank today. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, is where Lac Gus sits. Everything around it is boreal forest. The water covers some 19 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. A shoreline of some 2.7 km keeps the choices simple. Supplies mean a trip to Leblanc, 117 km off. Beyond it, Senneterre at 122 km and Manawan at 128 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. At Lac Gus the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The warm month here averages 16°C; the cold one sits at -18°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Lac Gus that shapes the whole year.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Lac Jean is 0.8 km distant. For Lac Gus, the notice at the access point is the final word.
