A grey, even sky over the water, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface with the glass holding level. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at Lac Campbell. A tough forecast; the evening offers the only real chance. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Quebec is where Lac Campbell sits. It stands 420 metres above sea level. Roughly 33 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Shoreline comes to about 3.6 km, small enough to learn in a day. Leblanc is the closest place, 115 km off. Senneterre lies 123 km off, Manawan another 127 km. What else is close: Lac Jean at 1.2 km, Lac Gus after 1.8 km, Lac Rebecca at 2.5 km, Lac Houll after 2.5 km and Lac Rand at 2.6 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Fish documented in Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At Lac Campbell the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -18°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. The season on Lac Campbell rarely departs from it.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. If the gate is shut, Lac Jean at 1.2 km is the nearest alternative. The position on Lac Campbell is worth confirming on the day.
