Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a useful SSW wind pushing food about and the barometer holding steady. Give the first drop-off and weed lines the first hour at Lac Givet. If you pick one session, make it the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, is where Lac Givet sits. Elevation runs to 423 metres. Surface area runs to about 8 hectares — small enough to read in one session. Leblanc lies 80 km from the water. Further out sit Chapais (101 km) and Chibougamau (105 km). Water in the same corner: Lac Siroues 0.6 km away, Lac Bethel a touch under 1.1 km, Petit lac Magrie 1.4 km away, Lac Aylmor a touch under 1.5 km and Lac Magrie 1.6 km away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Anyone new to Lac Givet should walk it once before setting up.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -18°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Plan any trip to Lac Givet around it.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Lac Siroues is 0.6 km off. Ask locally about Lac Givet if anything is unclear.
