Rain moving through today, with steady pressure of wind from the S and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Lac Germer will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. The strongest window is the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Quebec holds Lac Germer, in Mauricie. The setting is taiga on every side. It measures about 23 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. A shoreline of some 3.2 km keeps the choices simple. La Tuque sits 49 km from here and is the nearest stop. Laurentides follows at 49 km, then Saint-Raymond at 80 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac Germer the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The seasonal spread runs -16°C to 17°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. That is the shape of the year on Lac Germer.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Petit lac Germer, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Lac Germer.
