A grey, even sky over the water, with a light chop building from the SW and the barometer holding steady. Give structure within a cast of the bank the first hour at Lac Gerard. If you must go, go in the evening. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Set in Côte-Nord, Quebec, this is Lac Gerard. It lies 166 metres above sea level. It measures about 10 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The whole outline is near 1.7 km, and most of it is walkable. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. Baie-Comeau at 52 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Hauterive at 60 km and Matane at 62 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Côte-Nord include logperch. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Treat Lac Gerard as a water to read rather than to cover.
Between January at about -13°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about late November in a typical year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Lac Gerard runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Access is not recorded for this water. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac du Trappeur sits 1.2 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Lac Gerard before loading the car.
