Overcast skies today, with a whisper of wind from the S with a settled glass. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Lac Gerard. The numbers single out the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

You will find Lac Gerard in Mauricie, Quebec. The setting is taiga on every side. It sits higher than most water we list in Quebec. Nearest place of any size is Weymontachie, 36 km away. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 180 km away. Nearby, in order: Lac Claude about 1.1 km, Lac du Pied 1.4 km off, Lac de la Roche Plate about 1.6 km, Lac du Relais 1.8 km off and Lac Rene about 1.9 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Lac Gerard the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Averages move between -17°C in January and 16°C in July. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Lac Gerard fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. If the gate is shut, Lac Claude at 1.1 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Lac Gerard in what we hold.
