Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a light S breeze with a settled glass. Fish at Lac Gemma should hold close to the first drop-off and weed lines. Quiet conditions all day, with the evening marginally better. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Gemma belongs to Côte-Nord, Quebec. It lies 322 metres above sea level. Around 17 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The bank runs about 2.9 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. For supplies, Port-Cartier is 129 km out. The big place round here is Saguenay, 298 km distant. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Fish documented in Côte-Nord include logperch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Treat Lac Gemma as a water to read rather than to cover.
Long-run averages give July about 15°C and January about -20°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid May. Break-up near mid May, freeze-up near early November: that is the shape of an average year. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lac Gemma runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Lac Ray is 6.3 km off. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Gemma for certain.
