Fresh rain topping the water up today, with dead-still conditions with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac Garneau should come off the seam between weed and open water. Set the alarm around the morning. Let the water tell you when to move. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Set in Capitale-Nationale, Lac Garneau is a Quebec water. The bank gives way to rolling bush. Roughly 1.35 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. Few waters listed in Capitale-Nationale are bigger. Laurentides is the closest town at 9.3 km. Beyond it, Sainte-Thècle at 33 km and Saint-Ubalde at 40 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Capitale-Nationale include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker and sauger. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. At Lac Garneau the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Climate normals give 18°C for July and -15°C for January. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near late November in autumn. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Anyone fishing Lac Garneau regularly works to that calendar.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. If the gate is shut, Lac des Chanterelles at 1.2 km is the nearest alternative. The position on Lac Garneau is worth confirming on the day.
