A closed sky with even light today, with mild air moving in from the SSW and steady pressure. Most of the action on Lac Gagnon should come off sheltered bays and points. Quiet conditions all day, with the evening marginally better. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Gagnon lies in Côte-Nord, Quebec. The surface lies 658 metres up. This is a pocket water of some 7 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. For a base, Port-Cartier sits 91 km out. Saint-Alexandre follows at 92 km, then Sept-Îles at 97 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Reported across Côte-Nord: logperch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Work Lac Gagnon in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Long-term averages put July at about 14°C and January near -19°C. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Break-up comes around mid May, and the run that follows is short and strong. In an average year the thaw lands around mid May and the freeze near early November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Expect Lac Gagnon to follow that timing.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac du Beigne, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Gagnon for certain.
