Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with next to no ripple and the barometer holding steady. On Lac Funicule, work the first drop-off and weed lines first. Quiet conditions all day, with the morning marginally better. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue entry here is Lac Funicule, in Quebec. It sits at 380 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 5 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is a small entry by Abitibi-Témiscamingue standards. Head to Saint-Boniface, 109 km away, for anything you forgot. Beyond it, Deep River at 113 km and Maniwaki at 118 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Read Lac Funicule before you fish it and the day goes better.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 17°C, while January sits near -16°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to late November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. At Lac Funicule the season follows that pattern closely.
Access is not recorded for this water. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac du Chene, 0.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac Funicule before loading the car.
