Flat light and a covered sky today, with the surface near flat and steady pressure. Start the search at Lac Achaine along sheltered bays and points. A hard day on paper; the evening edges the rest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

In Quebec, Lac Achaine belongs to Abitibi-Témiscamingue. The water sits 378 metres up. It measures about 36 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. A shoreline of some 4.9 km keeps the choices simple. Deep River lies 111 km from the water. The nearest city of size is Gatineau, 211 km away. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. At Lac Achaine the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
The warmest month averages 17°C, the coldest about -16°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. The season on Lac Achaine rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Wisopchidick, 1.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac Achaine before loading the car.
