Lac Francine is listed under Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. This is taiga country. At some 4.02 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. At about 18 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. It lies lower than most water we list in Quebec. For a base, Kuujjuaq sits 53 km out. It is 1075 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. No border sits close enough to matter.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Open biodiversity records for Nord-du-Québec list Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At Lac Francine the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Seasonal averages run from -24°C in January up to 11°C in July. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Count the season from break-up, usually early June. Ice clears near early June and comes back about late October in a typical year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan any trip to Lac Francine around it.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Huneau, 7.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac Francine before loading the car.
