A grey, even sky over the water, with just enough N wind to ripple the surface and pressure going nowhere. Activity on Lac Fox should centre on windblown banks where food collects. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. A cold snap day, so work the warmest water you can find.

Lac Fox lies within the bounds of Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. The setting is boreal forest on every side. This is sizeable water at about 1.43 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Around 12 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. It lies lower than most water we list in Quebec. Nearest place of any size is Kuujjuaq, 48 km away. Further out sit Nain (484 km) and Puvirnituq (506 km). There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Nord-du-Québec list Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At Lac Fox light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Between January at about -24°C and July at about 12°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The ice season is long here and the open one short. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early June. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early June and starts locking again about late October. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Lac Fox runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Barrie sits 5.7 km off and takes the overflow. The position on Lac Fox is worth confirming on the day.
