Dull, settled light over the water, with a whisper of wind from the WSW and steady pressure. On Lac Francine, work structure within a cast of the bank first. The forecast is against you; the middle of the day is the least bad option. Short, focused sessions beat a long grind today. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Set in Côte-Nord, Quebec, this is Lac Francine. This is spruce and muskeg ground. The water covers some 20 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. About 2.2 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Forestville is the closest place, 80 km off. Saguenay is the closest city, 127 km away. Within easy reach: Lac Mins lies 1.2 km on, Lac McKinley some 2 km off, Lac Washish lies 2.8 km on, Lac Doris some 2.8 km off and Lac Eel lies 3.1 km on. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Fish documented in Côte-Nord include logperch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. On Lac Francine the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. The season on Lac Francine follows the weather closely.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Failing this one, try Lac Mins, 1.2 km away.
