Hard light and clear air over the water, with flat calm through the day and steady pressure. The productive water at Lac Foutereau will be around the first drop-off and weed lines. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Foutereau is an Abitibi-Témiscamingue water, Quebec side. Elevation runs to 320 metres. Surface area is around 33 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Around 4.7 km of margin, front to back. Start from Notre-Dame-du-Lac, 58 km down the road. The big place round here is Greater Sudbury, 202 km distant. This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Read Lac Foutereau for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The seasonal spread runs -15°C to 18°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Plan any trip to Lac Foutereau around it.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Lac Short Cut at 2.1 km is the nearest alternative. For Lac Foutereau in particular, ask before you travel.
