Overcast skies today, with a consistent blow out of the SSW and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lac Fool should be near the shallows early and the drop later. If you pick one session, make it the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Fool belongs to Laurentides, Quebec. The country round it is taiga from end to end. Around 11 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. About 1.9 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Manawan sits 64 km from here and is the nearest stop. Further out sit Ferme-Neuve (76 km) and Mont-Laurier (94 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Records held for Laurentides cover pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac Fool responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Long-run averages give July about 17°C and January about -16°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Fool.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Gaucho, 1.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac Fool in particular, ask before you travel.
