A still, cloudless night on the water, with a soft S wind and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Lac Flat around the calm side of the wind. A slow day overall; the morning is the best of a quiet lot. Go lighter and slower than usual. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

The Outaouais entry here is Lac Flat, in Quebec. Height above sea level is 176 metres. It runs to roughly 14 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Bank access stretches around 1.5 km in total. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. Wakefield at 32 km is the nearest place to stop. The big place round here is Gatineau, 56 km distant. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Outaouais: pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Flat the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Expect July to average close to 19°C, with January the cold end at about -13°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. On average, late April opens the water and early December closes it again. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. At Lac Flat the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows a picnic spot within 1.2 km. There are toilets 1.2 km off. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Lac du Serpent is 0.7 km off. The position on Lac Flat is worth confirming on the day.
