Changeable light under scattered cloud, with a mirror surface most of the day and steady pressure. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Lac Epagneul. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue end of Quebec holds Lac Epagneul. The bank gives way to lake country bush. Surface area is around 11 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. There is roughly 2.2 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Start from Notre-Dame-du-Lac, 50 km down the road. Greater Sudbury sits 192 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Across Abitibi-Témiscamingue, recorded fish include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac Epagneul responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The range across the year is -15°C to 18°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. That shapes the year on Lac Epagneul.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lac du Chien Enrage is 0.9 km off. Ask locally about Lac Epagneul if anything is unclear.
