Overcast skies today, with a kind S breeze on the water and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Emma should be near any hard bottom among the soft. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Emma is a Labrador City water, Newfoundland and Labrador side. The water sits 625 metres up. The water covers around 3.80 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. There is roughly 29 km of bank, and each arm behaves like its own water. It sits higher than most water we list in Newfoundland and Labrador. Labrador City sits 15 km from the bank. After that come Wabush at 21 km and Fermont at 26 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Survey and observation records for Labrador City include brook trout, northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Lac Emma fishes better once you know its edges.
Averages move between -23°C in January and 13°C in July. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Ice-out usually falls in late May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The open-water window runs from around late May to about late October in an average year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Anyone fishing Lac Emma regularly works to that calendar.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Reid at 5.8 km is the sensible second choice.
