A closed sky with even light today, with the surface near flat and the barometer holding steady. Fish at Lac Elbow should hold close to structure within a cast of the bank. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

This water sits in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. Elevation runs to 361 metres. At 1.15 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. Shoreline length is close to 13 km, and each section fishes a little differently. On our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list it sits near the top for size. The town to know is Val-d'Or, 62 km out. Senneterre follows at 74 km, then Malartic at 84 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Open biodiversity records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue list northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac Elbow responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The warmest month averages 17°C, the coldest about -16°C. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Elbow.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Parking sits 630 m out, which makes for a walk with tackle. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. For a change of water, Lac Pecy is 1.1 km distant. Signs at Lac Elbow carry more weight than any list.
