Passing showers with dry spells between, with air barely moving with a settled glass. Lac Elaine should fish best around sheltered bays and points today. If you pick one session, make it the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Elaine sits in Nord-du-Québec, out in Quebec. Height above sea level is 394 metres. It measures about 56 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. You are looking at roughly 6.4 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. Head to Chibougamau, 7.5 km away, for anything you forgot. Chapais is 31 km away, with Mistissini at 70 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac Elaine fishes better once you know its edges.
Seasonal averages run from -20°C in January up to 16°C in July. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Elaine.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac aux Chicots sits 1.4 km off and takes the overflow. Rules at Lac Elaine are worth checking on the day.
